1. ANALYSIS AND SURVEY
Every project starts with an analysis of the current situation. This includes the revision of surveys already in the possession of the client, interviews with the upper and other management levels, analysis of competition, enquires and trend studies.
Types of survey:
ANTHROPOLOGICAL
Follow-up of the target user routine to get the perception of his/her desires and needs.
ERGONOMIC
Cycles and frequency, effort level and critical points in the execution of certain tasks that involve certain products.
BEHAVIORAL
Search for patterns of users’ behavior in the utilization of products regarding the execution of certain tasks, and the understanding of the emotional relation with such objects.
EVOLUTIVE
Study on the evolution of a certain product, to meet a certain need, since the first solution conceived by the human being, the invention of the object, for the identification of its cultural and functional baggage.
TRENDS
Compilation of market information, creation of semantic panels and assembling of style matrixes.
2. DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN ITSELF
In this phase, we create possibilities which may fit the proposed briefing, examining conceptual options and determining the most appropriate for our client, either for the revitalization of an identity, a new packaging system, a merchandising strategy as well as for a new line of products.
a- Creation of alternatives
Survey of technical possibilities of production, systems, previous dimensioning and other non-linear relations for the elaboration of design concepts and intentions.
CONFIGURATION AND VISUALIZATION
Development of alternatives in the form of drawings and illustrations for visualization and presentation of concepts thus allowing the analysis by departments and suppliers involved with the project.
PRESENTATION TO DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS
Project analysis and verification by the involved departments for the validation of the development carried out until that moment or for reorientation of some of the project aspects.
b- Consolidation of selected alternatives
Elaboration of physical and digital models for different analyses such as: functional, assemblage, dimensional, for revision and validation of the created concepts. Among those, we can highlight:
3D DIGITAL MODELS
Digital modeling for visualization of volumes and analysis.
PHYSICAL MODELS
Construction of mock-ups and reference models in alternative materials which allow the visualization and handling of the product.
PROTOTYPES
Using 3D model files, quick prototypes are produced, which can be done by stereo-lithography or other systems for the verification of assemblage, thickness, etc.
FINISHING
Definition of materials, finishing, textures and colors, considering trends and the user relation with the product.
c- Finalization
Refinement of final details, elaboration and delivery of final files containing all necessary specifications for the manufacturing of the product prototypes.
3. DOCUMENTATION AND FOLLOW-UP
The final phase of the project offers to clients methods for the control and supervision of proposals, in order to ensure their future value and strategic efficiency. The production supervision encompasses the preparation of printed and CD Rom design standards manuals, the supervision of prototypes and the follow-up of the first production batch.
